Sony sucks yes they do. The worst customer service I've ever experienced. The worst! I'm boiling over with rage. I will NEVER buy anything with that accursed name on it again. Don't buy Sony. Let them go the way of all crap...down the toilet

I agree, Sony sucks sometimes for support and warranty.

Walmart on the other hand at least for me has been great. They have taken every item back for me that has ever given me issues. Only a computer memory card and a spindle pack of cd's. I give Walmart the thumbs up and Sony the big thumbs down.

[...] On Sony (#5), Jeremy says: I refuse to buy anything Sony. There is nothing worse than paying a premium for a piece of garbage that you can get for much less elsewhere. Not to mention their stupid new formats they are always trying to force on people. … How did Betamax work out for you, Sony? That format really took off. … I look forward to blu-ray resulting in the same fate. [...]

I've got no problems with Sony. I've been carrying their credit card for some time. I've stopped using it with better rewards programs out there, but there's always something Sony that I can use. I have to admit that I don't like their take on the propietary formats, but I simply don't buy those products and move on. Now Apple, with iTunes and iPod, that's a propietary format to avoid. There will be the sound of a million exploding batteries when people realize they have to buy their songs again because they won't work in the next great music player.

In the video game arena, they are far less evil (IMO) than Microsoft, so they win that by default. If Nintendo hadn't basically exitted the main fight I'd mention them, but it's a two game system fight - maybe the Wii will change things.

From a television standpoint, I think they make some of the best on the market. And they provide them at all levels. They aren't a bad company because they make a big one for movie stars' living rooms. If anything they are a good company because they address the whole audience.

Flexo, that is correct. Bluray is technically speaking a better product. Just like Betamax. But just like Betamax, consumers may gravitate to HD-DVD. Big companies are backing both formats, but HD-DVD has a bit of a jump on getting to the market, and at a much cheaper cost. Sony has more movie companies planning on supporting their format which could provide an additional push needed.

But in the end it comes down to consumers driving the market. Also due to the agreements between Toshiba and Microsoft it looks like Microsoft will end up fully supporting HD-DVD. And since MS controls somewhere around 90% of the personal computer market and a substantial game console market, that alone will be quite a force to overcome, especially if they can continue to do so cheaply.

See, I like BluRay, especially when compared to the smaller-capacity, DRM-friendly HD-DVD. I've never owned electronic equipment with a Sony brand -- maybe my 13 inch UHF/VHF TV was Sony, I'm not sure now.

I refuse to buy anything Sony. There is nothing worse than paying a premium for a piece of garbage that you can get for much less elsewhere. Not to mention their stupid new formats they are always trying to force on people. The memory stick? Give me a break. Oh yeah, how did Betamax work out for you, Sony? That format really took off (even if the quality was better, it didn't matter). I look forward to blu-ray resulting in the same fate.
