The Best Strategies for Using Work Vacation Days, Part 4

In each post of this series, I’ll share another bit of advice that will help you better plan and enjoy your time off.
- Take frequent mini-vacations if you just can’t manage to get a whole week or more off at a time. Since I’m not a big fan of long vacations, I try to take shorter ones as often as I can. You can typically give much less notice of a mini-vacation, so you won’t have to plan it weeks or months in advance. A three-day weekend can do wonders for your body and mind… though a four-day weekend (including Friday and Monday) is even better!

I keep booking flights for us over weekends, only to realize after asking the hubby to take those days off that I’ve booked it over a paid holiday… yeah! Free vacation days! We feel like we’ve had so much time off, and there’s more to come.

One of the best ideas is to take Thursday and Friday or Mon and Tue off so you can get full 4 days of vacation. I actually does feels like vacation after 4 days. Two days is way to short

Definitely think people underestimate the power of mini-vacations to recharge the mind.
But the key is to unplug completely and really take the vacation. If you do this, a mini-vacation can actually be better than a week or two where you’re constantly plugged into work still, checking the blackberry and online in the mornings or evenings (much to everyone else’s chagrin).
Totally agree with this post!
