I like Soa’s comment: Never judge a book by its cover! Coupons are meant to be used and not for poor people only. Coupons saves us a great deal of money so why be embarrassed? Besides, establishments gave their go signal for these coupons to be printed so why feel that you are cheating the suppliers?

Indeed. Amen. Especially the last one. Who cares what people think? Even if you make 6 million a year, you’re teaching your kids how to be frugal and do better things with their money. There’s no insurance they’ll do what you do but being the fearless coupon user is not a bad example to set. Good luck! Beware all grocers selling tuna!

I try and make it a point to only go out to eat when I have a coupon. I don’t spend too much time searching for coupons, but I won’t shy away from using them if I have them.

I’d be willing to bet at 27 with your degree you are still in deep, deep debt over school notes. Six MILLION? I am sorry, that just sounds like a horrible lie. Salary.com would be a good source to check that out. Having said that, there would be my first reason to use coupons.

So let’s say you are not in deep debt, what can you do with the savings? Do you pay yourself and save it for retirement, your children’s college education? Donate it to the poor, needy, a homeless shelter?

Couponing helps me pay CASH to keep my daughter in school and her loans down. It helps me stay out of debt. It helps me give items to homeless shelters.

I suggest that if you are embarrassed to use coupons, you are hanging with the wrong people. If they have the audacity to say anything, tell them when they disclose their debt and how they manage their money, what they do in their lives to give back then they can make fun of how you manage your money.

To me it is a fun challenge to see how good of a steward I am with that which is a blessing. It is also a matter of experience, maturity and intent.

I use coupons all the time, probably because I have no self-esteem left. Coupons are a lot more effective if you save them for triple-coupon week at the supermarket. I’ve gotten some free stuff that way.
