Punny Poll #20: How Far Would You Go For $50 Million?

would you turn cat hitman for cash?

With the U.S. tax season in our rear-view mirrors, Punny Poll #19 draws to a close and reveals some startling facts about Punny Money’s readers: nearly a quarter of you are tax cheats! About 3 in 20 of you indicated that you’ve skimmed a few dollars on your tax returns. That’s not so bad… until you consider that 15% of 200-some million taxpaying Americans cheating on their taxes for just $20 each is around $600 million (roughly equivalent to 12 seconds of Iraq war funding).

Seven percent of respondents also claimed to have cheated the IRS out of $2 million or more. I’ve already sent your IP addresses in for my reward, so please handcuff yourselves and wait for the FBI to arrive. (Hahaha, just kidding about the IP addresses. But if you’re a hot girl, please remain handcuffed until I get there.)

The results of the previous Punny Poll lead directly to the next poll question. It seems that more than a few of you don’t mind lying and cheating if it means saving some bucks at tax time. But how far would you be willing to go if the reward were much higher?

How have your finances suffered due to bad weather in 2008?

# Murder, maim, massacre–money over morality! (20%)
assuming you couldn’t get caught?

That’s the big assumption; probably why I haven’t shot the couple of people who have road raged at me. Was forced by my overriding sense that I don’t want to go to jail for life with my luck.

But seriously, getting caught is the main thing that will happen so I control my sometimes urges or I would have long ago robbed wells fargo in order to get back the tons of cash I’ve given to them in fees!

I suddenly wonder what it says about me that I decided I’d rather trip an old lady than kill some kittens… for $50 million! Maybe it’s just because I like kittens and old people annoy me… I’d probably trip an old lady for $10… if I weren’t getting caught.

But seriously, I’m starting to think I probably would drown a bag of kitties for that much money… also, when do I get to take these handcuffs off?

Good thing we have police around to catch crazies like you two!

And you can take the handcuffs off now, Stephanie. My wife would like them back. :)

Crazy like a fox!
Or smart enough to know my limitations on escaping from the police.

Seriously though, I really really wouldn’t kill someone maybe maim at the maximum!

I actually find it a little disturbing that more people would drown kittens than trip old ladies… I think tripping old ladies is the lesser of the two evils. That said… I wouldn’t do anything evil or immoral for money… but I’d probably trip someone.

I picked tripping the old lady. Assuming I wouldn’t get cought, I would

a) Cheat on my taxes for any amount of money.
b) Yell at an old lady for at least $10k
b) Trip an old lady for at least $20k
c) Puch an old lady for at least $500k
d) Publicly humiliate a friend for at least $1MM
d) Publicly humiliate a family member for at least $2MM
d) Burn a church down for at least $5MM
d) Publicly humiliate my wife or kids for at least $10MM
d) Cheat on my wife - never
d) drown a kitten - never
e) massacr - never

i’d rather people enjoy their extra cash than fund another 12 seconds of the iraq war.
