I have ongoing boxes of gifts I keep as I find things I know family members will appreciate. Usually though, I do a huge "black Friday" shopping spree to finish it all off. Then I have only holiday baking, enjoying the season, and the occasional stocking stuffer to buy.

This being said- I budget about $500 for 3 kids (ages 1, 4, 7), 3 nephews (ages 4, 4, 7), and 10 adult family members. I squeeze every last drop out of my budget! And- gifts are supplemented by some freebies hubby gets working for an auction firm at holiday time. If we had to pay for everything- I would guess it would more than double our costs for the holidays.

I think you needed a "I don't do the Christmas shopping" option on this poll too. I'm surprised more people don't start earlier though.
