More talent is being lured away by lucrative offers overseas (did you hear about the US $1 billion Biopolis research haven that Singapore has built?). China is doing the same thing, and now it has more resources than ever to attract the best American-educated students. Even if we concentrate on education now, as your company is doing, there's a whole generation that has been skipped. The gap in momentum (the intellectual momentum built up by other countries and the momentum lost by the US) is not easily closed, even in a generation or two. Wouldn't it be ironic if many manufacturing jobs started moving back to the US? It's time to start learning Mandarin.
