Many variables. Auto insurance is a biggie but some locales may allow thee to dispose of the conveyance and utilize public transportation. Much savings if a vehicle can be cast asunder.

Property taxes vary as well as state income taxes and sales taxes.

Some backwards anti-human area actually tax food.

Something needed for basic survival being taxed should be cause for violent revolution and the taxing agency relegated to the proverbial ash heap of history.

Your author moseyed down to a backwards area of the USA where hovels can be purchased for $20,000 and the yearly property taxes are often in the 100 to 200 bucks per year range.

Of course, the accustomed-to-luxury non-working-poor crowd would shudder at the though of hovel living.

At least the shanty keeps the rain off one's head and the walls and doors and plywood over the windows slows down the intruders though the jack-booted thugs invading yet another wrong abode are seldom slowed down what with the immense array of equipment at their disposal (your tax dollar at work).

There are also plenty of cost-of-living calculators on the net, but I don't know how accurate they are. I would live on Mars or Neptune, but not Venus or Jupiter.

I'm down with moving to a new planet as well. Maybe the cost of living will be cheaper. I am moving to another city here soon. The cost of living for this city is a little bit more and even though I'm getting a raise it is still very expensive to pay for items in that city.

I'm down with moving to another planet but I think I'm going to have to save up a few more intergalatic credits first.

This is great, I have a friend who is thinking about taking a job in Florida and he's in Kansas right now. This information will be helpful when it comes to figure out cost of living ...

The fastest way to becoming a bazillionaire is job hopping from a cheap place to a more expensive place to an even more expensive place to a much much more expensive place and so on, then moving back to that cheap place. After all those Cost of Living increases and, hopefully, raises, you'll be making bank in your new location!
