I love the comedy, sci-fi, and Baywatch ideas. You should pursue them until the shows are on the air!

I almost didn't care about the screen-writers strike, until I found out that the Coblert Report and the Daily Show likely wouldn't air if the strike occurs, that would be saddening.

@The Dave,
I know that royalties for non-TV broadcasts is the big issue here. And yes, I agree it's not really fair to the writers. But I don't think they're in any position to complain about it simply because, in my not-so-humble opinion, Hollywood-quality writers are a dime a dozen. Heck, I know four amateur writers who could crank out the best Law and Orders or CSI: Whatevers you've ever seen with only a tiny bit of effort, but it's simply too hard for most of them to get noticed by Hollywood executives. Yes, the producers are being evil here by keeping the online and DVD sales money for themselves. But I guess they prefer a long, expensive strike to hunting for new writing talent. I guess we'll just have to see how it plays out.

@plonkee,
I could have thought of a better idea for Jesus, but like professional Hollywood writers, I don't get paid extra to think about a particular idea for more than 12 seconds.

I like the sci-fi series idea, but I'm not sure about the cop show. I'm not clear why Jesus would run for governor of California, but you're the writer, I'm sure you know what you're doing.

Normally I've agreed with most of what I've read on this blog, and second to that, I'm normally about as anti-union as they come (and I can go on at length)

However, the studios have really gone too far this time, and I'm 100% behind the writer's guild.

Why? Well, the short version is that the agreement the studios are proposing pays out zero royalties to writers for non-traditional medias. In other words, writers get paid royalties when their work is shown on broadcast TV, cable, satellite, when DVDs are sold, etc, but NOT when studios start broadcasting online, or to cell phones, PDAs, or other mediums. How is that even remotely fair?
